Summer Series

Get ready for the PDRC Summer Series

This summer marks the launch of the PDRC Summer Series, sponsored by Boating West Boat Hire! The series will feature 8 circuit races, held every second Wednesday afternoon at our clubrooms in Burswood. Subscribe to the events calendar here for dates.

The races are open exclusively to Adventure Class only, with the action kicking off promptly at 6pm. Each race will consist of 5 heats, your top 3 results will count towards the final Summer Series championship standings.

Once the racing wraps up around 7pm, we’ll unwind together, enjoying the stunning views from our clubrooms with a sundowner and a BBQ.

What is Adventure Class?

Adventure Class is a new, exciting category designed to make boat racing easy, fun, and accessible. It’s perfect for getting you on the water with minimal hassle.

To qualify, boats must be mass-produced and commercially available—no custom builds allowed. You can use any motor up to 15hp, with a maximum engine capacity of 300cc. The Mercury Super 15, a Japanese-made engine, is a popular choice. Only 3-bladed aluminium propellers are permitted.

For full details, check out The Specifications [here].

What Modifications Are Allowed?

Only limited safety modifications are permitted, as outlined in Section 6 of the Specifications. You can strengthen the transom, but the motor’s cavitation plate must remain level with or lower than the bottom of the boat.

Additionally, engine tilt locks must be removed (see Specification 11.8), and an approved motor restraint strap must be fitted. Detailed guidelines for the restraint strap can be found in Section 11.13 of the Specifications. These straps are also available for purchase from PDRC.

What’s Required to Race with the PDRC?

To race with the PDRC in the Summer Series, you’ll need to be a club member and have your boat insured for the circuit season. You can complete both your membership and insurance application [here].

A swim test is required—150 meters in 10 minutes—completed while wearing a full-length wetsuit, approved helmet, and enclosed footwear, as per Competition Rules Section 21. This can be done at the clubrooms prior to the race.

Safety gear is a must: you’ll need to wear a PFD and helmet that meet the requirements outlined in Section 10 of the Specifications. Enclosed footwear is also mandatory. While a full-length wetsuit is required for the swim test, it’s optional during circuit races.
